FAQs
Which non-profit organizations are eligible for consideration by the group?
Non-profit organizations must:
-
Be nominated by a current member.
-
Be based in and serve the Charleston Tri-county Area.
-
Be a registered 501c3 nonprofit or charitable organization eligible to provide tax receipts for donations.
-
Be established for at least 1 full year (no start-ups).
-
Agree not to use, give, or sell the contact information of our members for additional solicitation by them or other organizations.
-
Not be National or International nonprofit, programs or organizations unless they can commit to designating 100% of our donation to the Charleston tri-county area. Our focus is on local nonprofit organizations where our contributions make an impact.

Do I have to present a charitable organization to be a member and come to the meetings?
Absolutely not! Many members are passionate about a particular charity and therefore want to make a presentation upon their behalf. Other members are there to listen and be supportive of those making the presentations. There's a little something for everyone!

How is the organization that receives the group donation chosen?
When a member registers, they can nominate a local nonprofit, whose name will go into a hat for a random drawing at our meeting. We select 3 nonprofits from the hat and invite our member to present at the meeting. Their 5 minute presentation utilizing the Nonprofit Nomination Form is followed by a brief Q&A. Then we vote and the nonprofit with the greatest number of votes is the recipient of the funds.

How often may I try to nominate and present on behalf of my chosen charity?
-
The recipient charity is not eligible to be re-nominated for one calendar year.
-
If your name is drawn and you present that evening but are not chosen by majority vote, you are eligible to continue to place your name in the hat at future meetings. In fact we hope you will!
-
If you put your name in the hat and your name is not drawn to speak, you may try to at any and all subsequent meetings. And again, we hope you will!

How many members are there?
We hope to reach 100 dedicated members and there is no maximum! The larger our chapter, the more funds we can donate.

How do I make a donation to the chosen organization?
At the end of each meeting the chosen charity will be announced. Members will donate via the Grapevine Link directly to that organization. Absent members will be notified after the meeting as to which organization received the largest number of votes. They can then go on the website and make their quarterly donation.

Do you have a Matching Contribution option?
Not yet! But we hope to in the near future! Stay tuned!

Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, as only registered nonprofit organizations will be sponsored by the group. Grapevine will send a receipt of your donation directly to you for your accounting and tax purposes.

How long do the meetings last?
We hold 4 meetings each year. Our meetings are intended to be short and no longer than 60 minutes. Prior to the business meeting there is an optional social/dinner hour for those who want to enjoy the time together.
Can I bring a friend to the meeting?
Of course you can! We are always seeking women who care! However, in order to vote they will need to become a member.
Do any of my donated funds go to administration costs of 100 Women Who Care Charleston?
Absolutely not! 100 Women Who Care Charleston is organized and operated entirely by volunteers, the Core Team. 100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected organizations.
What do you do with my personal information?
100 Women Who Care Charleston collects your personal information (including name, email & phone number) strictly for the purpose of maintaining our membership list. We will not sell, give or otherwise share your personal information.
How long is the commitment?
We hope that you will enjoy this process so much that the length of your commitment is not even a concern. The expectation is that members commit to 4 donations of $100 each. Of course we realize that various unexpected life events can change your personal situation. If you no longer want to participate in this chapter; we ask that you inform us. We will remove you from our membership list and you will no longer receive our email communications.
